Stomp Off records (549 Fairview Terrace, York, Pa. 17403) makes a specialty of this old cum contemporary music, and if you dig, what it produces is for you. Of note is Uptown Jazz by the Louisiana Repertory Jazz Ensemble (LRJE), founded in New Orleans some five years ago, the most authentic in its genre, which has ranged these United States and even crawled under the Iron Curtain to concertize in the Soviet Union.
Uptown Jazz is a small anthology of famous New Orleans pieces, made famous by King Oliver, Louis Armstrong, and others in that city's jazz galaxy. The LRJE play it strictly as it was in the classic period of jazz--the head arrangements that became set pieces now come to life again.
